Here you can learn about how to write down the story of your life--one page at a time. Many of us think about doing this and very few of us actually get around to it. But there is a way to tackle this project that makes it enjoyable, exciting and attainable. Simply join an autobiographical writing group in your community and attend regularly!

For many years I have been developing and facilitating life story writing classes. There are two main parts of my classes. In the first part members learn exactly how to get started, how to write their short life stories, how to include photos and how to gather their story collections into book form. In the second part of each class they break into small reading groups of about six people. They take turns reading their two-page stories to one another and receive positive feedback. In the process, they bond with one another and form often lasting friendships.

My students have ranged in age from 19 to 97. Here are some of the comments about their experiences:

"When I started the class 10 weeks ago, I never imagined that I would end up with a beautifully bound 40 page book of my life stories--that I wrote myself! I would not have accomplished this without the support of this class and my small reading group!" Chuck P.

"My family was so impressed with my book of life stories. My 8-year-old granddaughter said, 'You wrote this book, grandma?' I was so proud." Margie F.

"The best part for me is reading my two-page story to my small group. Knowing that they are there, and are eager to listen and provide encouragement, motivates me to do the writing each week. Otherwise I know I would not get around to it."Akari S.

"I took this class because I wanted to pass on our family's history to my children, grandchildren and future generations. I found out that I really love doing it for me, too. Getting together with my small group is the high point of my week!" Consuelo C.
